![]() To be certain, try playing the game with your internet connection disabled and clear your cache. ![]() If all you have is the preloader SWF, you might think you have the full game. Music was especially better to keep external, because when streamed, it won’t have to suffer from the SWF compression (albeit, losing some of that signature nostalgic charm of crappy audio quality). Not only that, but heavier assets like sprites (graphics) and music/sound effects could be stored externally. If the file is missing or malformed, parts of the game begin to look broken. Levels may not even be in SWF format, but maybe a text format (XML, JSON) or even loaded from a database, in the case of large games like Happy Wheels.Īn example of externally loaded level data. Instead, it could be a list like: jungle.swf, underwater.swf, desert.swf, etc. However, it won’t always be that predictable. Usually, this would be done for things like different levels (like level1.swf, level2.swf, and so on). After that, the game itself could be split into several sub-SWF files. Sometimes, you’ll be met with a preloader SWF which then grabs the actual game SWF file. In order to keep light on bandwidth (especially during the dial-up days), Flash content isn’t loaded all up-front. This is why programmers have jobs! :) Multi-Assets You’re not breathing underwater, you’re just doing what you did before in a different environment with some compromises, while achieving the same result (not drowning). In this analogy, emulation would be like wearing scuba gear. It’d be like asking to “convert” your lungs into gills when the world will be underwater tomorrow. It’s not bad advice, but as you’ll see, Flash content can be a little more tricky sometimes.Īnd no, you can’t just magically “convert” SWFs to another language such as HTML5. It’s remains to be seen whether or not this is a “time bomb” or “kill switch,” so you may want a version such as 32.0.0.142 or older, which doesn’t appear to have that… feature. This discovery was made by one of our members setting their system clock forward and observing it. Also, recent versions now come with some code which displays a warning after 2020. In fact, back in June, they pulled the archived downloads for older versions (and some games will only work with older ones). Keep in mind that those will probably be taken down at some point. After that, me and my crew might go "second star to the right, and straight on 'till morning".The first bit of advice you’ll see is that “all you need to do” is to save the SWF file and then grab a standalone Adobe Flash Projector. I must be going, I have a shipment to the new colony on Paso to make. To all the Captains that have gone before me and that come after me, greetings and fare well. I have Broken Mirror 2.swf from Flashpoint and I have JPEXS Flash decompiler, but I would rather have the source code and I want to know if I am even allowed to do this. I would really like to port them from flash to the Godot engine that way I can mod it and play it on devices that don't have flash. ![]() I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether I can mod any of the Flash Trek games especially Broken Mirror 2 and where I can find the source code for Broken Mirror 2 or one of the Flash Trek games. But maybe there is some Captain left in this quadrant that will answer my hail. I recently found this community and this one .uk/ but both look inactive. I couldn't find any way to contact the author's, I couldn't find any copyright info or source code, and I searched for communities around Flash Trek, but most are long gone. So I tried to find the source code and contact the makers of the game to find if I could mod Broken Mirror 2. During my search I noticed that some people had made there own version of different Flash Trek games. After those weeks of playing Broken Mirror 2, I searched around to learn more about the Flash Trek games and played some of the other ones. I spent a few weeks on it, finishing it twice, dying hundreds of times in the process, mostly around some uninhabited planet, being shot down by enemy fire only to be shot again while in my 10th generation escape pod. ![]() My favorite Flash trek game is Broken Mirror 2. I only came across it during my search for the flash games I used to play and searching to see if anyone made any star trek ones. It was only two years ago that I first heard of Flash Trek, so I'm pretty late to them game.
